What is Groupage Transport?

Groupage Transport, also known as merged transport, is a shipping method in which smaller shipments are combined into one larger freight. Groupage transport allows you to share shipping costs with other shippers, making it an economical option for companies with smaller loads. It optimizes space in the truck and allows for more efficient use of transportation equipment. In addition, it is also cost-saving: you share transportation and fuel costs with other companies. Our advanced logistics systems and distribution networks ensure that your goods arrive at their destination safely and on time.

Groupage Transport Benefits?

Groupage transport offers multiple benefits, such as:

  • Environmentally friendly, because cargo space is optimized, fewer trucks with half loads are on the road. This reduces mileage and emissions.
  • Cost-effective: you only pay for the space your shipment takes up, and the shipping costs are shared. This often works out to be more economical for you.

How does Groupage Transport work?

With groupage transportation, the process is slightly different than normal. At Germanetti, we use the following four steps:

  1. The various shipments are picked up and brought to the hub.
  2. We assemble goods based on the final destination and any requirements such as conditioned transport.
  3. The truck drives to its destination region or to the next distribution point.
  4. Shipments are sorted and delivered to recipients.

What Should You Keep in Mind When It Comes to Groupage Shipping?

When choosing groupage, it is important to take various factors into account. Thorough preparation and clear agreements are crucial in this regard. Therefore, when using this form of transportation, pay special attention to the following points:

Weight and volume of the shipment

The weight and volume of your shipment partly determine the shipping costs. Be sure to always provide the correct dimensions and weight of your shipment. It’s also important to indicate whether the goods can be stacked; if they cannot, your shipment will naturally take up much more space, which affects the price.

Packaging and Protection of Goods

With this shipping method, multiple shipments are transported in the same truck. It is therefore important to specify in advance whether a shipment requires, for example, extra protection.

Delivery Time and Flexibility

This solution may be more cost-effective than using a full truckload, but scheduling depends on combining multiple shipments. Therefore, take the desired delivery time into account and discuss in advance how flexible the schedule is. If a short delivery time or a specific delivery time is important, another transportation solution might be a better option.

Destination and Route

Please contact us to see if your destination is within our network. Options and transit times may vary by country and region. For international shipments, customs documents and border clearance procedures also play a role.

More than just Groupage Transport.

In addition to groupage shipping, Germanetti also offers other services, such as LTL (Less Than Truckload), FTL (Full Truckload), and temperature-controlled transport. Our LTL service is ideal for smaller shipments that aren’t large enough to fill an entire truck, while our FTL service is perfect for large shipments. Our temperature-controlled transport is suitable for temperature-sensitive goods. By combining these services, we can offer a comprehensive logistics solution that meets all your transportation needs.

At Germanetti, we strive to provide you with the best transportation solutions, with a focus on reliability, flexibility and efficiency. Contact us today to find out how our groupage transportation service can improve your logistics processes.
